Earlier I was talking about meeting people where they are, where they are comfortable.
Use Different forms of social media because some people prefer a specific platform.
Also, as people use different forms they are more likely to run into you.
In addition, provide value to people that might potentially be on your email list.
Now for the golden moment. This is something very very big for someone new to online marketing to understand. It literally is not the size of your email list or amount of twitter followers. The reason is that if nobody is listening there is never going to be any action taking or sale. This is why you should strive to make a connection with the people you are working with. You should supply them with value.
1,000,000 email subscribers or 100,000 twitter followers with 5 action takers is bad
1,000 email subscribers or 1,000 twitter followers with 100 action takers is better
Get the math?
Why even do social media as a marketer? Duh, that is where ton’s of people are and a good message can be spread quickly for free. Today we’ll talk about using multiple platforms to reach people. The reason we do it is we want to find people where THEY are comfortable and hang out. If people hang out on facebook then I need to be there. If it’s twitter then I need to be there. You get the point. However, at what point does it become too time consuming to try and be EVERYWHERE?
I currently am dedicated to Twitter and Blab, a video platform. But, I also have a presence on Facebook, Linkedin, and YouTube. Of course, I am probably at places not listed, but, this brings up the point. I shouldn’t try to be absolutely everywhere. It would cost too much time and not have enough return.
I am satisfied hitting the big ones and concentrating where I feel comfortable and strong. I encourage you to make a presence on the traditional social media platforms and to find where you fit in the best. It will help your business grow.
The money is in producing creative, unique, helpful concepts and leading us with your vision. Take chances and think independently. Improve what is out there. Organize to make our lives easier.
Find out the how and why…
The traditional model of the distribution of information is still present, but, as you’ll see it’s not the only pathway. See if you recognize these marketers and their degree of influence.
The Top Thinker– Thought Leader, Creative Ideas, Independent Thinker
1. They lead us in the evolution of the niche, specialty, industry, or field.
2. They have the most influence and largest potential monetization from the specific subject.
All roads point back to them.
The Adopter– A person absorbs ideas of a top thinker then shows support.
1. Help us by presenting the top thinkers ideas in an easy to understand way.
2. Further ideas by improving them.
3. They may inspire others to give greater merit to a top thinker.
The Organizer– Simply takes material from top thinkers and adopters then organizes it.
1. Helps us to find relevant, meaningful ideas quickly.
The Consumer– The seeker of information and motivation.
1. A large audience that can be monetized.
If you don’t ever do any work then you’ll always be a consumer. It’s quite possible that in your field you will bounce between these roles. The good news is that becoming a thought leader can be a faster process than it was before. The reason is your ideas can be shared by social media(twitter, facebook, etc.) at a very rapid pace.
Advertising and established followings are still strong, but, you can see how unique, helpful concepts can catch up or even pass up the traditional with word of mouth advertising(social media).
Winning peoples respect and attention is the name of the game. Aim for being the top thinker as much as possible. If you can’t create then adopt and improve. If you can’t adopt then organize for us. Consume to help you do all the above.
The money is not in just consuming.
The money is in producing creative, unique, helpful concepts and leading us with your vision.
We will start off with some comedy. Here is the quote I came up with today.
“Follow me on blab, twitter, and facebook and I will teach you how to increase your followers/reach”. This answer is what social media experts understand lol.
and here is the answer: Strangely the answer is a repeat of my quote nearly:
“Ask people to follow you on blab, twitter, and facebook and you will teach them how to increase their followers/reach”
and then you give them the answer I just gave you 🙂
Now please politely follow me on the right hand side and we’ll work to solve all your marketing problems. I don’t currently handle psychological problems.
Authors Note: This was a poke of fun at social media EXPERTS. I don’t claim to be an expert at social media. Will I discuss it, yes I will. It can be very effective for your business. But, come on social media expert…? The next big social media sensation is months away. The experts will be brand new. How can they be an expert? The game can change in an instant.
Do I think that someone can be exceptional in what is currently being used, yes I do. But, expert is never a word I would use to describe them.
Two Simple Rules of Social Media: Have conversations with people, you learned that in 1st grade right? 2nd rule: Provide information that helps people, you did your first report in say 5th grade? Organizing information and making it useful to others is as easy as 5th grade. However, when you go to write original, helpful information that is a step up, say 11th grade English class.
Online business is as hard as making the decision about what you will specialize in(your product choice). Could be simple or hard for you to decide, but it’s a critical decision.

Want to talk about this stuff so everyone sees it as EASY? Come find me on Blab, a video chat site, at 6pm eastern Monday-Friday.
As I address this subject further, you may be interested in a previous blog post on viral advertising.
Predictable viral word of mouth advertising begins with the vision of an individual or small group. I mention the word predictable because a youtube video of a track runner catching a hurdle just the wrong way, if you know what I mean, is well, unplanned*. Back to executing viral…
*Unless your a goofus that practices shooting a video of you acting like your messing up on a hurdle. Which crazy enough, I might try if I thought it would further traffic exchanges.
Granted this only had 100,000 views but you get the point.
Now let’s look at the traffic exchange communities, the Cash Surfing Network and the Plus 1 Daily. The passionate and knowledgeable people meet at webinars currently hosted at Blab. CSN is at 6pm eastern Monday-Friday and P1D is at 4pm eastern Monday-Thursday.
CSN is headed by Marcus Wahl, Ken Locatelli, Rodney Hage, and Eric Goettman. Plus 1 Daily is headed by Justin Ledvina, Jon Olson, and Tim Linden. These are the individual/small groups that see a greater vision for the industry.
Now begins the reaching out process, the spread. Obviously, there are people that support the webinars or what would be the point of doing them and members support traffic exchanges because that is what makes them work. We greatly appreciate that support because we understand that without it, there is nothing. These small groups of passionate supporters reach out to communities they are involved in and the growth process goes further.
Remember, you represent your community. Might I add that it is value that attracts people and keeps the ball rolling. Now let’s talk about the vehicle of our message. We could open our door at home and yell, “Hey, have you heard about traffic exchanges? They are really great!” but we would probably just bother our neighbors. Instead, our target is more online as that is where our industry is hosted (I’m not saying that going to a live convention of marketers could not be a productive place to discuss traffic exchanges).
Online methods of reaching communities include facebook, twitter, g+, and linkedin. These sites have tons of people using them and are full of micro communities. People gravitate towards picking specialties within these sites and in business because small groups/individuals handle very specific topics well.
The seven of us mentioned above can’t reach every place that we need to be, but, a group can. Use main stream social media, forums, message boards, emails, and anything that is your specialty, because a larger industry is one that will support your business.
If you see the future with us or enjoyed the article then give it a little social love right below ya. Heck, comment on the post so people see you when they come here. Let them know your interested in something greater.
Here it is, my secret banner trick, now available to all blog readers. Entering banners and visiting multiple sources is a time consuming process. However, I’m gonna get you massive banner exposure by visiting just 4 sites.
Ok this is what we are up to. We will be using a site called BucketsofBanners. So if your up for massive, simple, time saving banner exposure please sign up by clicking on the program if you are not already signed up.
Next, I want you to grab two urls, one is the banner image and the other is the target from the site.
On your left hand menu click on “Get Impressions”. Then select “Banner Exchange Code”. Then click “On Other Sites”. There is the banner image url and target url that you will need.
All you have to do is enter the banner image you got from BucketsofBanners in the banner image slots at the three traffic exchanges above. Of course, you will be entering the target url you got from BucketsofBanners for the target. Now all impressions that you send to your banner code will earn you impressions to be shown across a HUGE network of banners thanks to BucketsofBanners!
If you enjoyed this simple, free trick, all I ask is that you share it using the social media buttons below.
The adoption of something new, innovative, or undiscovered product
is now largely fueled by people in discussion and maintained by people in
I have used the word discussion in place of social media because I find the words social media to be vague.
It’s just people talking and communicating.
Facebook, twitter, google+, and what is new in the next three months,
allows people to communicate at a lighting fast rate. Ideas and opinions spread quickly.
If this is such a big force, then products and ideas that are put into position to be easily shared have the BIG ADVANTAGE.
Going large scale doesn’t have to rely on large money. Having a good product is going to make the process so much easier, but,
a product that is well received by the public and EASILY SHARED could outperform a product of superior quality!
It is time to recognize the people that talk about your product and give them an easy means to share.
How do we get from point A to Viral? Viral being that out of control word of mouth advertising that marketers dream of.
The adoption of something new, innovative, or undiscovered starts with an individual or small group.
They are the match to the long, long string of fireworks. Quite simply, if something is already adopted by a very large group then it has
already gone main stream.
The individual or small group, to be at maximum effectiveness, will need passion for motivation, knowledge, and execution.
Word of mouth advertising is so strong, that support from communities become the DECIDING FACTOR in many VIRAL pursuits.
Think participating in communities is a waste of time? It would appear CRITICAL to the small business person working to spread his idea
and CRITICAL to a small group working to spread their product.
Interestingly enough, this concept doesn’t only apply to business. In fact, the same process can be used to instigate change in all kinds
of positive ways.
I hope this helps your business perspective or enables you to spread ideas of positive change.
If you found something useful I just please ask that you share it 🙂
I was hanging out in a new video platform connected heavily with twitter, called BLAB. I saw there were a lot of conversations going on about social media and I thought to myself what is the most important thing to talk about. The answer I’m sure you’ll agree with is… Change.
People and businesses are always imperfect. If we know that to be true then the type of businesses we should be running and following are ones that are working to constantly improve(changing). The same is true of the business peers that we choose to work with.
No matter how strong your business armor is, there will always be holes in it, I mean places to improve. Don’t stop learning because learning new things are the gateways to positive change.
Ideas of positive change are ok, but, positive ideas of change followed by action are exceptional.
Offer people ways to improve their business, to make positive change, and you will be rewarded.
If it helped your day or business mindset, please share it with others.
